Fabulous Fourth Graders

Writing in the Fourth Grade classes have been connected to science and social studies themes such as the environment, composting and recycling, mold, owl pellets, and the Iditarod Sled Dog race.

Students in the fourth grade have written reports about local forest creatures and how they survive in their environments. Additional pieces of writing have included responses to literature, narratives, and procedures.

Mr. Cummings has organized the fourth grade newspaper titled The Howler. The editorial board has been able to publish two editions so far featuring sketches, writing and games created by fourth grade.

Coming up in the near future, students will be learning about Vermont's heritage through an outreach program sponsored by the Bennington Museum.

This fall and winter the fourth grade learned about the local environment through trips to the woods out back with help from educators from BEEC.Investigations in math have included units about Factors, Multiples, and Arrays, The Shape of Data, Multiple Towers and Division Stories, and Size, Shape, and Symmetry.

Many fourth grade students have been involved in school community based projects such as collecting for UNICEF, Student Council, and food drives.
