Judith Palmeri and Elizabeth Motta are the Academy School Counselors. We are here to provide support for our students and their families. We meet with students individually and in small groups. We are available to parents to help problem solve and to provide information about community resources that may be available to assist them. We work with the Academy School staff to teach and reinforce positive social skills. We believe that children are better able to learn if they are happy and healthy emotionally. Even relatively small issues can be overwhelming at times, making it difficult for a child to concentrate in class and get their work done. Our role is to help these students with whatever issue may be interfering with their day. Some students we see just once about a specific situation. Some we see regularly as we help them through a difficult time. We also have peer support groups. We try to include as many students as possible in groups throughout the year to improve and practice various skills such as conflict resolution, anger management, and making friends. How do we know who to work with? Many students that we spend time with seek us out themselves. Others are referred by teachers, parents and community members. We are available to all Academy School families. Please call if you have any questions or concerns.
